Ongoing References...
- [OLD] The TARDIS - The Doctor's time and space travel vehicle. TARDIS stands for Tethered Aerial Release Designed In Style. Like a lot of Time Lord technology, it is "bigger on the inside." The Doctor stole his Tardis when fleeing Gallifrey. It is an older model ("Type 40") and unreliable, often ending up in the wrong location.
- [OLD] The Doctor - The central character of both series of Doctor Who. This is the Next Doctor. He's a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. Real name: unknown; actual age: unclear.
- [OLD] John Smith - An alias commonly used by the Doctor. It was first used by The Second Doctor's companion, Jamie McCrimmon, as a name for the concussed Second Doctor in "The Wheel in Space" (Doctor Who (1963) season 5). The Second Doctor was the first to use it in his last story "The War Games" (Doctor Who (1963) season 6). The Third Doctor used it extensively during his time on exiled on Earth. Much like Jamie's usage, not knowing the Doctor's name, Chang Lee used "John Smith" on medical records. The name also appeared in "The Empty Child" Doctor Who (2005) series 1) as a reference to the Doctor, and it was the person he became in 'Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" (Doctor Who (2005) series 3)
- [OLD] Cybermen - Long term enemy of the Doctor in the old series [See Foes: Cybermen] and the new.
- [OLD] Sonic Screwdriver - A sonic device first used by the Second Doctor, and used in various forms ever since.
- [OLD] Regeneration - A Timelord technique for escaping death. (See: Background: Regeneration). In new Who, the there have been 3 previous regenerations: The Doctor ("The Parting of the Ways" (Doctor Who (2005) series 1) and "Journey's End" Doctor Who (2005) series 4)) and the Master ("Utopia" (Doctor Who (2005) series 3)).
This episode...
- [1ST] Cybershade - First appearance of this cyber-creature, as stated it's a cyber-conversion of a dog or cat. Some non-TV sources suggest that Cybermats may also use dog or cat parts.
- [NEW] Cybus Cybermen - This is a new breed of Cybermen, first seen in the "Rise of the Cybermen" (Doctor Who (2005) series 2) Tardisode are unrelated to the ones seen previously. The design is obviously updated for the new series, but they also have that "C" logo of Cybus Industries.
- [OLD] Cyber Leader - Highest ranking Cyberman when the Cyber-Controller isn't around. Appeared in "Revenge of the Cybermen" (Doctor Who (1963) season 12), Earthshock (Doctor Who (1963) season 19), "The Five Doctors" (20th Anniversary Special), "Attack of the Cybermen" (Doctor Who (1963) season 22), and the "Silver Nemesis" (Doctor Who (1963) season 25). A different looking version to this one (with no exposed brain) appeared "Army of Steel" (Doctor Who (2005) series 2). Usually denoted by a black helmet or handlebars.
- [NEW] Cyber-King - First appearance of this Dreadnought-class ship, although Mickey suspected one may have been in the Dalek Crucible in "Army of Ghosts" (Doctor Who (2005) series 2)
- [NEW] The Chameleon Arch - The Doctor had a fobwatch-like device when he became John Smith in 'Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" (Doctor Who (2005) series 4) and the Master had one in "Utopia" (Doctor Who (2005) series 4).
- [1ST] Infostamp - First appearance of this Cyberman device.
- [1ST] Cyclo-Steinham core - First appearance of this component of an infostamp.
- [NEW] EarPods - A device used by Cybus to control unconverted humans since "Rise of the Cybermen" (Doctor Who (2005) series 2).
- [OLD] The Void - "The Void" or "The White Void" was a location connected "The Land of Fiction" outside of real space in the "The Mind Robber" (Doctor Who (1963) season 6) where the normal rules of time and space didn't apply. The Gateway was an almost white location between N-Space (normal space) and E-Space (exo-space) in "The Warrior's Gate" (Doctor Who (1963) season 18). Torchwood-1's experiments in "Army of Ghosts" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 2) weakened the wall between reality and the Void, leading to the appearance of a Dalek Void Ship. Opening the Void in "Doomsday" (Doctor Who (2005) series 2) caused anyone or thing that had travelled through it to be sucked into it.
