References

[OLD] - Things that first appeared in the classic series (or the film.)  Episode List.

For context, the following are also covered:
[1ST] -  The first appearance of things in Doctor Who series.
[NEW] - Things that first appeared previously in the new series.

Ongoing References...

  • [OLD] The Doctor - The central character of both series of Doctor Who.  This is the Tenth Doctor.  He's a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey.  This, it turns out, means he can survive cyanide poisoning.  Real name: unknownactual age: unclear.

  • [NEW]  Psychic Paper - An item usually used by the Doctor to create false identification for the Doctor.  It first appeared in "The End of the World" (Doctor Who series 1).  It was first used to send him a message in "New Earth (Doctor Who series 2).

  • [NEW]   Unnamed blond girl - Probably just a glitch or something.  The TARDIS had the same problem in "The Poison Sky."  Weird.

  • [NEW]  Rose Tyler - Companion to the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, from "Rose" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 1 to "Doomsday (Doctor Who (2005) Series 2.

  • [NEW]  Martha Jones - The Doctor's companion in series 3 of the new Doctor Who.  She was revealed to have joined UNIT in "Reset" (Torchwood Series 2) in which she and Jack Harkness speculated that the Doctor may have recommended her.

  • [OLD]  The TARDIS - The Doctor's time and space travel vehicle.  TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space.  Like a lot of Time Lord technology, it is "bigger on the inside."  The Doctor stole his Tardis when fleeing Gallifrey.  It is an older model ("Type 40") and unreliable, often ending up in the wrong location and the chameleon circuit - designed to make the Tardis appear inconspicuous in any surroundings it appears has failed so it always appears as a police telephone box from 1960s England.

  • [OLD]  Doctor of... - Not a Medical Doctor, or is a Medical Doctor or maybe a doctor of lots of things.  See THE DOCTOR'S Title..

  • [OLD]  John Smith - An alias often used by the Doctor.  The first time on screen was by companion Jamie McCrimmon who told people it was the concussed Doctor's name, in the Second Doctor story "The Wheel in Space" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 5) and most notably the name he used when exiled on Earth as a scientific advisor to UNIT as the Third Doctor.

This episode...

  • [1ST]  Xtonic sunlight - The first mention of this type of light from an Xtonic star.

  • [1ST]  Shamboni - The first mention of this race.

  • [1ST]  The lost moon of Poosh - The first mention of this moon.  I'm sure it won't come up again.

  • [NEW]  Different universe - Rose.  I doubt she'll be back.

  • [1ST]  Micropetrol - The first mention of this fuel.

  • [1ST]  Flintoglass - The first mention of this material.

  • [NEW]  "The cascade of Medusa herself" - While taunting the aged Doctor in "Last of the Timelords" the Master said: "He sealed the rift at the Medusa Cascade single-handed."
