FOES - Cybermen

A Guide to Classic Who references in New Who episodes.  Meet the Foes of Doctor Who...


The Cybermen


Humanoids from Earth's twin planet Mondas converted to become cyborgs after the planet broke away and drifted to the edge of the Solar System.

The Tenth Planet.
They first appeared in the First Doctor's final story when Mondas.  Set in the far future time of 1986, a space capsule goes missing when a new planet appears in the sky and the Cybermen arrive trying to convert humans and destroy the Earth.


The Moonbase.
The Second Doctor soon meets the Cybermen again, on a Moonbase in the year 2070.



The Tombs of the Cybermen
In the 25th Century the Doctor helps archaeologists enter the tombs of the Cybermen, where he faces Cybermats, reawaken Cybermen and their leader the Cyber-Controller.


The Wheel in Space
In 2079, the Cybermen attempt to take over Space Station W3 to use its direct radio link to Earth as a beacon for an invasion, only to be stopped by the Doctor.


The Invasion
In the 20th Century the Second Doctor and UNIT stop an invasion of Earth by the Cybermen.

Carnival of Monsters
In this Third Doctor story a Cyberman is one of the creatures trapped in the miniscope.


Revenge of the Cybermen
Continues the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane and Harry's adventures on Space Station Nerva Beacon: "The Ark" finding it is controlled by the Cybermen who want to destroy the planetoid Voga.  The Cyber-Leader is notable for his black helmet.

Earthshock
The Cybermen plan to bomb Earth to end a conference of military leaders planning against them, but are stopped by the Fifth Doctor.

The Five Doctors
Some Cybermen are amongst those trapped in the Death Zone on Gallifrey.

Attack of the Cybermen
The Sixth Doctor stops the Cybermen's attempt to change history by causing Haley's Comet to hit Earth.

Silver Nemesis
The Cybermen arrive on Earth in 1988 to coincide with the return of the Nemesis comet, made of a living metal called Validium, which was created by Rassilon as the ultimate defence for Gallifrey and brings destruction to Earth.  They were stopped by Ace and the Seventh Doctor.

  1. The Earthshock Cybermen are by far my favorite design out of all the Cybermen types throughout the years. So damn awesome.
