- [1ST] The Satanic Nebula - First mention.
- [1ST] The Lagoon of Lost Stars - First mention.
- [OLD] Brighton - Actual place, British holiday destination with beaches, but one the Doctor has had little success with. In the Fourth Doctor story "Horror at Fang Rock" the Doctor tried to take Leela to Brighton, ending up at the island of Fang Rock of the story title. In a later story the Fourth Doctor tries to take Romana and K-9 to the Brighton Pavilion, but misses again - the day at the beach doesn't end well for K-9 - so they end up going to "The Leisure Hive."
- [NEW] The Door Phone - Previously, impossibly rung by the Empty Child ("The Empty Child") and Clara ("The Bells of Saint John"). The console phone was routed through to the door phone temporarily in "The Day of the Doctor" and the Doctor asked Handles to remind him to fix that in "Time of the Doctor." Obviously, he did, and it is now an impossible phone again. The episode reveals that the Doctor knows the number to it.
- [NEW] The Lady in the Shop - Gave Clara the impossible number in "The Bells of Saint John."
- [NEW] Memory Worm - Previously appeared in "The Snowmen."
- [1ST] Bank of Karabraxos - First appearance of this location.
- [1ST] Teller - First appearance of this creature.
- [1ST] Hologram Shell - First appearance of this device, however, the Doctor and Clara did use a holographic filter to appear to be wearing clothes in "The Time of the Doctor."
- [SJA] A Veil - Possibly Sarah Jane foe Androvax.
- [OLD] Sensorites - A telepathic alien race from the Sense Sphere in the First Doctor story "The Sensorites."
- [NEW] Kahler-Tek - "The Gunslinger" from "A Town Called Mercy"
- [OLD] Terileptil - From the Fifth Doctor story "The Visitation."
- [TOR] Capt Jon Hart - A rogue Time Agent played by James Marsters in Torchwood Series 2.
- [OTH] Abslom Daak - A criminal with a vendetta against Daleks. Appeared mainly in comic form, but made some prose appearances.
- [OLD] An Ice Warrior - The Martian Ice Warriors appeared a number of times in the original series, and Clara herself meet them in the previous series episode "Cold War."
- [NEW] Raxacoricofallapatorian - most likely from the criminal Slitheen family.
- [TOR] Weevil - Alien race from Torchwood, who arrived in Wales due the the Cardiff rift.
- [SJA] The Trickster - An extra-dimensional alien, formerly part of the Pantheon of Discord, a repeated menace for Sarah Jane and company.
- [1ST] Solar Storm - First appearance, although in "The Rebel Flesh" a solar tsunami occurred with similar results.
- [1ST] Neophyte Circuit - First appearance of this Tech.
- [OLD] Big scarf - the Fourth Doctor, of course.
- [OLD] Bow tie - could apply to the Second or Eleventh Doctors. It was a defining feature for the Eleventh.
- [1ST] Cesare Borgia - First time he dropped this name, although Borgia was a patron of Leonardo de Vinci who the Doctor has met before.
